When science becomes story

My journey began researching rare mushroom species in Ecuador. Today, I tell stories about science – in print, on screen, and on stage.

After completing a bachelor’s degree in biology, I studied journalism at the German School of Journalism (Deutsche Journalistenschule). For the past few years, I’ve been working full-time as a freelance science journalist. My topics range from attacking whales and social anxiety disorders to droughts in Germany. My main focus areas: environment, psychology, and medicine. I like to weave personal stories together with scientific facts.

I write for outlets such as Zeit Online, FAZ, and Spektrum der Wissenschaft, develop films for ARTE, and host live events — for example at the Silbersalz Festival.

My films and articles have been recognized with nominations for the Holtzbrinck Prize for Science Journalism and the Media Award of the Foundation for Disabled Children. Grants from organizations such as the Heinrich Böll Foundation Washington and the International Journalists’ Programmes have taken me around the world.
Some of my favorite places: Sarajevo in Bosnia, Roșia Montană in Romania, and Vancouver Island in Canada.
